The Wagner Institute offers an exciting hands-on geology lesson that fulfills the requirements of the Cub Scout geology academic pin and belt loop, as well as the Webelos geologist activity badge.
The program begins in the 19th century lecture hall for an overview of geology and a thorough examination of the teaching collection. The program continues in the exhibit hall upstairs, where scouts participate in geological activities and a scavenger hunt that will guide them through the Institute’s magnificent geology collection.
There is a fee of $3 per scout to cover the cost of materials, but there is no cost to visit the museum. A donation of $8 per adult and $5 per child is suggested, but any contribution your group can offer will make a difference.
Geology pins and belt loops can be ordered in advance or are available for purchase in the gift shop.
A minimum of 10 scouts is required to schedule a program, which lasts 2 hours.
Although closed to the public on Mondays, the Wagner will schedule scout groups on these days, subject to availability. Keep the Wagner in mind for teacher in-service days and other school closings or half days.
