Children's Education
Scouting
The Wagner Free Institute of Science is proud to participate as a program partner with Scouting groups of all ages! Scout groups attend in order to earn Cub Scout achievements, belt loops, pins and/or badges. Being a historic, natural science museum, the Institute possesses wonders that children of any age can enjoy and explore.
Programs
As a program partner, we provide an exciting hands-on geology lesson that fulfills the requirements of the geology acedemic pin and belt loop as well as the Webelos geologist activity badge. We begin in the 19th century lecture hall for an orientation to geology. After your scouts have thoroughly examined the teaching collection, we will move to the exhibit hall upstairs. Upstairs, scouts will participate in geological activities including a scavenger hunt that will orient them to the magnificent geology collection housed at the Wagner Institute.
Fees
There is no fee, but we welcome donations.
Pins and belt loops are available for purchase in the gift shop.
Scheduling
We have reserved Mondays specifically for scout troops, including January 15th and February 19th. Keep the Wagner in mind when schools have teacher in-service days and other school closings.
To schedule your troop's visit please call 215-763-6529 ext. 15.
