Printmaking–the art process behind Hokusai’s The Great Wave off Kanagawaand Warhol’s Marilyn Diptych–is not only a tool of fine art but was once also a practical, everyday process of transporting images into books, newspapers, and magazines.

Help kick-off our First Saturday Open House series this fall by exploring the role of printmaking in scientific illustration, cataloging, and research! Participants can leaf through hand-colored lithography prints from our archives, watch local artists practice Gyotaku, a traditional Japanese printmaking practice utilizing REAL fish, and even try their hand at screenprinting!
