A Sip of Science isour signature soirée, bringing together science and history enthusiasts, community leaders, and Wagner supporters for an evening of celebration amid our sublime natural history collection.

Each year we honor local luminaries whose work in areas related to the Wagner’s mission, such as science, technology, architecture, or education, has had broad public impact.

November 13th, 2026—you’re invited

This year we’re celebrating years of providing free science education to generations of Philadelphians. Help us commemorate this momentous occasion at our annual benefit party November 14th from 5:30 - 8:30pm at The Wagner Free Institute of Science.

Meet Christine Brown

2025 Louisa Binney Wagner Service Award Recipient

With deep roots in the North Philadelphia neighborhood where she grew up and has dedicated her life to serving, Brown has tirelessly advocated for the residents in the Cecil B. Moore community for more than 30 years. At Beech, she wears many hats. In addition to serving as the Director of Beech Community Services, she is the Administrator for the Beech Scholarship Fund, Grants Administrator for the Alston-Beech Foundation, and Executive Producer of the annual "Jazz on the Ave" Music Festival, one of North Philadelphia’s premiere cultural events.

Brown is also a tireless advocate for justice and peace. She was an instrumental member of the North Philadelphia Organizing Committee for the historic Million Woman March and played a pivotal role in the 2013 March for Peace Walk, organized by the Cecil B. Moore Freedom Fighters. Through her unwavering dedication to the Cecil B. Moore neighborhood and her longstanding advocacy for social change, Christine Brown continues to make a lasting impact, and demonstrates that one person’s commitment to their community can spark transformation for generations to come.

This annual fundraiser raises crucial funds to sustain our historic institution and support our free educational programming.
